Storage, transmission and visualisation with light

 how

The modern multimedia society thrives on information which must be stored, exchanged between people and ultimately made visual.

All of these functions are only possible with the help of light in today’s high quality and speed. Data is optically saved on CDs and DVDs, transmitted via fibre optic cables using light and transformed into images for people to see using state-of-the-art display devices such as plasma screens, projectors or beamers.

And the optical technologies hold even more innovations in store for us for the future, such as holographic storage media and ultra-thin, luminescent displays of organic LEDs.
