Wave or particles?
|
Light is a wave – and also a particle. Light particles – called photons – have a flattened spheroidal shape. They possess neither electric charge nor rest mass. And yet they are particles! It’s no wonder that the great debate between the two great researchers, Christian Huygens and Isaac Newton, about whether light consists of waves or particles, still remains unresolved. Light waves or particles – these are merely different views of one and the same phenomenon – and we need both pictures to describe the characteristics of light completely. |
